Description This research is motivated by the students' low understanding of concepts and the difficulty of students in linking the knowledge they have with life in their everyday environment. Through the application of the contextual teaching and learning approach, it is hoped that it can improve students' conceptual understanding. This research is a classroom action research conducted on third grade students of SDN Negeri 002 Sungai Salak, Tempuling District. The implementation of this research is in the even semester of the 2018-2019 school year. The instrument used was a concept understanding test. The results showed that in the first cycle the students' understanding of the concept had an average of 68.43 with sufficient categories and 56.25% classical completeness. In cycle II, students' understanding of concepts had an average of 72.81 with classical completeness reaching 93.75%. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the application of contextual teaching and learning approach can improve the conceptual understanding of third grade students of SD Negeri 002 Sungai Salak, Tempuling District.
