The article presents considerations about the importance of editing historical texts of various documentary types, including Resolutions, Letters, Letters, Requirements and Consultations, for the philological and linguistic study of the memories of violence related to the black population, in its various forms and speeches, in contexts of slavery. In particular, the historical documentation of the 18th and 19th centuries, located in collections of national and foreign archival institutions – including the National Library of Rio de Janeiro and the Lisbon Overseas Historical Archive – presents, in a recurring way, narratives that testify to the horror of power relations over the black body as a force of production. In this bias, starting from the materiality of texts and speeches, it is necessary to pay attention to the forms and conditions of production and the linguistic and social uses of writing, since the historical texts, present in collections, register various modes of confrontations by the various social segments. To this end, reflections on the political and social role of Philology in the organization of editorial products and discussions on institutional violence against the black body and movements of (re) existence, in contexts of slavery will be developed.
