Description Los trabajos de grado y posgrado y las tesis de doctorado tienen un rol fundamental en la cultura académica, al diseminar resultados de investigación y fortalecer la comunicación científica. En estudios de Odontología hispanoamericana y española, se deben presentar para obtener el título de odontólogo,  dentista, máster o doctor. Debido a esto, existen propuestas para enseñar a escribir este género a esta comunidad. Generalmente, predominan instructivos y cursos prescriptivos que no se basan en evidencia científica de la cultura disciplinar. Desde el análisis del discurso, se han realizado numerosos estudios sobre el género “tesis” en distintas modalidades, disciplinas y lenguas, pero no hay publicaciones sobre tesisy trabajos de grado en Odontología en español. De aquí que, utilizando el modelo swalesiano de análisis de género, este estudio mixto analiza la estructura retórica de 272 trabajos de grado y tesis presentados en universidades hispanoamericanas y españolas, y publicados en la web entre 2000 y 2018. Los resultados muestran que no existe un formato estándar. Esto es, hay variaciones relevantes en las seccionesincluidas y en su organización. Estas variaciones podrían estar asociadas, entre otros factores, a la ausencia de programas de escritura académica que estén basados en la práctica real de la comunidad discursiva de Odontología. Por ello, se sugiere que en estos programas se formalice la enseñanza de la escritura académica basada en evidencia científica.
Bachelor and master’s thesis or doctoral dissertations play an essential role in scholarship, by spreading research results and strengthening scientific communication. In Iberoamerican universities, these are requisites to get bachelors, masters, and doctor’s degrees in Dentistry. Therefore, there are several proposals to teach this genre to this community. Nonetheless these mostly consist of instructional and prescriptive courses overlooking scientific evidence coming from the disciplinary culture. In the field of discourse analysis, many studies have been conducted on the “thesis” genre in various modalities,  disciplines, and languages. However, to date, there are not any research studies on theses or dissertations on Dentistry in the Spanish language. Hence, this article reports on an analysis of the rhetorical structure of 272 Spanish-language theses and dissertations presented in Iberoamerican universities, and published on line between 2000 and 2018. The results show there is no standard format. That is, there are relevant variations in terms of which sections were included and how they were organized. These variations may be associated to the lack of academic writing programs based on real-life practice within Dentistry’s discourse community, among others. Therefore, an evidence-based teaching of academic writing is suggestedwithin the discipline of Dentistry.
Les travaux de troisième cycle et les thèses de doctorat jouent un rôle fondamental dans la culture académique, dès qu’ils diffusent les résultats de la recherche et renforcent la communication scientifique. En Ibéro-Amérique, ils sont un pré-réquisit pour obtenir un titre de diplôme, formation approfondie ou des études spécialisées en odontologie. Pour cette raison, il y a des programmes pour enseigner l'écriture de ce genre dans cette communauté. En règle générale, les instructions et les cours normatifs prédominent et nesont pas fondés sur des évidences scientifiques de la culture disciplinaire. Dans le domaine de l'analyse du discours, de nombreuses études sur le genre "thèse" ont été menées sur différentes modalités, disciplines et langues, mais il n'y a pas de publications sur les thèses et les diplômes en odontologie dans la langue espagnole. Ainsi, dans cette étude, nous analyserons la structure rhétorique de 272 articles de premier cycle et de thèse présentés dans des universités hispano-américaines et espagnoles, et publiés sur le Web entre2000 et 2018. Les résultats montrent qu'il n'y a pas de format standard ; c’est-a-dire qu’il y a des variations significatives dans les sections incluses et dans leur organisation. Ces variations pourraient être associées, entre autres facteurs, à l'absence de programmes de rédaction académique basés sur la pratique réelle dans la communauté du discours de l’odontologie. Par conséquent, il est suggéré que l'enseignement de la rédaction académique basé sur des évidences scientifiques soit formalisé dans ces programmes.
