Description Theft of electricity is a significant problem faced by both developed as well as developing countries. It affects both the power as well as economic situation. It also at times is the root cause of blackouts. This paper proposes a method based on the forward–backward load flow and artificial neural networks to detect electricity theft in a radial distribution network. Simulations have been performed in MATLAB Simulink and the results have been presented.
