Mathematical Problem Solving

Description Problem solving in learning is very important. Through problem solving, students are required to use various skills, such as conceptual understanding, procedural, reasoning, connections, representation, and literacy. Students need to be accustomed to solve problems. The student's experience in solving problems will be the basis for solving more complex problems. Student proficiency in solving problems will be beneficial for his life. This study aims to describe the difficulties experienced by students in solving mathematical problems. The study was conducted on fifth grade elementary school students. Students are given mathematical problem solving. Results of student answers were analyzed. Then, the students are interviewed. The interview was conducted to find out more clearly about the difficulties experienced by the students. The results show that students' difficulties in problem solving are caused by important skills they do not have. Difficulties experienced by students are grouped into several types of difficulty.
