Access to land resources has remained crucial to livelihood andhousehold sustenance. The control of arable land resource invariablyresults in conflicts and concomitant food crisis and youth developmentchallenges in Nigeria. In addition adverse effects of individual andcommunity land disputes, the recent conflicts between the Fulaniherdsmen and indigenous farm owners have resulted in destruction oflives and crops. Employing the content analysis approach, the study x-raysthese conflicts and their effects on general livelihood security, andconcludes that the popular challenge of land tenure system is a securityrisk to socio-economic and environmental development of the Nigerianstate. It recommends urgent review of land use and arable landdevelopment policy.
