Description Oil spillage is a lingering environmental problem in Nigeria. It isprevalent in the Niger Delta area, where it generates problems betweencommunities and oil companies. Though certain efforts are being made byboth the Federal Government of Nigeria and the oil companies in thearea, a lot requires to be done to uphold a friendly environment, devoid ofrancour. This paper is, therefore, an overview of the situation in the area,the circumstances bringing about oil spillages, the impacts upon theenvironment and what could be done to ameliorate the situation.
