Kata kunci : Fitoplankton,  Sungai, Purposive sampling ABSTRACT Phytoplankton are organisms that act as primary producers in aquatic ecosystems. Phytoplankton are microscopic aquatic organisms that live floating around the water surface and most of the species are sensitive to the environment. The research location is a river that has human activities so that it can be said to be a polluted river, so it is necessary to do research. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytoplankton found in Batang Nareh Pasir Baru Nagari Pilubang Sungai Limau District, Padang Pariaman Regency. Data collection was carried out in Batang Nareh by purposive sampling method. The results of this study found 21 species of phytoplankton consisting of 3 classes, namely the Bacillaryophyceae class, the Chlorophyceae class, and the Cyanophyceae class. There are 4 phytoplankton species in the Bacillaryophyceae class, 14 phytoplankton species in the Chlorophyceae class, and 3 phytoplankton species in the Cyanophyceae class. Keyword : Phytoplankton, River, purposive sampling
