The present work seeks to analyze some perspectives about the development of citizenship in Brazil, focusing on the imperial period, between 1822 and 1889. Some historical events that occurred in the mentioned period will be objects of analysis, but always having a political perspective on the facts, or at least clarify some doubts about the development of political rights in the country, as well as some aspects of the slavery in Brazil, which was abolished only a year before the falling of the Brazilian Empire. Was used the extensive reading method of some fundamental works for analysis, as well as the reading of specific chapters of works that cover other periods and other processes that will not be object of analysis in this work. The main focus of analysis will be the practice of political rights in the country and the maintenance and dissemination of slavery, which can be identified as major obstacles to the development and full exercise of citizenship in Brazil. Therefore, it is safe to say that this social structuring in classes with different legal statuses constitutes a major obstacle, given that the political forces were not interested in reforming such structures.
O presente trabalho busca analisar algumas perspectivas acerca do desenvolvimento da cidadania no Brasil, tendo como foco o período imperial (1822-1889). Serão objetos privilegiados de análise alguns eventos históricos que ocorreram no citado período, mas tendo sempre uma perspectiva política sobre os fatos ocorridos e buscando chegar à uma resposta, ou pelo menos esclarecer algumas dúvidas acerca do desenvolvimento dos direitos políticos no país, assim como alguns aspectos do uso da mão de obra escrava no Brasil, que foi abolida apenas um ano antes da derrocada do Império. Foi utilizado o método da leitura extensiva de algumas obras fundamentais à análise, como também a leitura de capítulos específicos de obras que abrangem outros períodos e outros processos que não serão abordados neste trabalho. Os principais focos de análise serão a prática dos direitos políticos no país e a manutenção e disseminação da escravidão, que podem ser apontados como grandes obstáculos ao desenvolvimento e exercício pleno da cidadania no Brasil. Dessa forma, é seguro dizer que essa estruturação social em classes de diferentes status jurídicos consiste em um grande entrave, visto que as forças políticas não tinham o interesse de reformar tais estruturas. |
