This research is located at Banten Bay and surrounding areas where geographically positioned on the western end of the north coast of Java. This study aims to determine the shoreline changes, sediment dynamics, and coastal cell boundaries through satellite and thematic map studies, and on-ground observations. The coastal characteristic of the Banten Bay and surrounding areas is dominated by the muddy coast with mangrove vegetation such as in Lontar, Pontang, Sawah Luhur, Kasemen, and Kramatwatu. Whilst, mixed rocky and sandy coasts occur on the west side of Banten bay such as in the Bojonegara industrial area. Some coasts, e.g. Bojonegara, have been modified becoming reclamation areas, ports, jetties, and other coastal structures. The coastal dynamics show significant morphological changes including at Tanjung Pontang due to abrasion, while at new Ciujung delta and Sawah Luhur were experiencing accretion. Sediment imbalances derived by the diversion of the Ciujung Lama River and mangrove area conversions are the main cause of the abrasion in Tanjung Pontang. The installation of the breakwater and hybrid engineering structures has been conducted for coastal protection but is considered to be less successful. Rehabilitation strategies by re-canalizing the Ciujung Lama River, installing submerge breakwaters, and planting mangroves are highly recommended to overcome the abrasion. Keywords: dynamics, shoreline, Banten bay, abrasion, sediment transport.
