Description Globally, there is a latent problem associated with the oral health of the population, since approximately 2.4 billion people suffer from permanent tooth decay. Traditionally, fluoridation is the most common strategy to provide an adequate solution that reduces the high statistics of caries in children and adults worldwide. The most common ways to develop such a strategy are the fluoridation of drinking water and common salt. Therefore, in the present work these strategies are analyzed as ways to establish preventive oral health programs. In conclusion, fluoridation methods in water and table salt have proven to be effective in different nations, however, the preventive oral health program applied on sodium chloride represents significant advantages in terms of cost / benefit ratio and coverage. in the population; even more so in countries like Ecuador, where according to the statistics of the pertinent organisms, low levels of accessibility to drinking water are reached.
Keywords: Prevention, oral health, drinking water, sodium chloride, fluoridation.
