Description The spleen is the second most commonly injured organ, caused by blunt abdominal trauma. Thanks to the nonoperative curative management approach of these injuries, an increase in number of preservations of this organ has been registered. As a new acquisition in spleen preservation, after blunt abdominal trauma, splenic artery embolization has increased the success rate of nonoperative management (NOM) up to 97-99%. This article presents the role and importance of new tactical and technical approaches in solving blunt splenic injuries, indications, technical considerations, effectiveness and the rate of complications developed after splenic artery embolization.
