Description The article presents an analysis and comparison of the formative curricular structure in the field of Biological Sciences in institutions of higher education, particularly as regards the relevance and quality of the undergraduate curricular offer; the study was carried out using the method of documentary analysis. For this purpose, the curricular structures of twenty five universities that were included in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, ten European, ten North American and five Latin American universities were studied. These universities base their curricular structure, on average in twenty-three (23) subjects in their common trunk, and diversify their levels of specialization in a range that ranges from sixty (60) to one hundred twenty-eight (128) elective subjects, closely related to economic development, productive, scientific and technological of their formative contexts, which presupposes that the curricular relevance in the institutions of higher education in Ecuador; must be designed, executed and evaluated according to the strategic requirements of national development.
El artículo presenta un análisis y comparación de la estructura curricular formativa en el campo de las Ciencias Biológicas en instituciones de educación superior,particularmente en cuanto a la pertinencia y calidad de la oferta curricular de pregrado; el estudio se realizó empleando el método de análisis documental, para ello se examinaron las estructuras curriculares de veinte cinco universidades que constan en el Academic Ranking of WorldUniversities, de ellas, diezEuropeas, diez Norteamericanas y cinco Latinoamericanas, dichas universidades basan su estructura curricular,como promedio en veinte y tres(23) asignaturas en su tronco común, y diversifican sus niveles de especialización en un rango que oscila entresesenta (60) y ciento veinte y ocho (128) asignaturas optativas, en estrecha relación con el desarrollo económico, productivo, científico y tecnológico de sus contextos formativos, lo que presupone que la pertinencia curricular en las instituciones de educación superior en el Ecuador; se deben diseñar, ejecutar y evaluar en función de los requerimientos estratégicos del desarrollo nacional.
